Barbara Carby

Dr. Barbara Carby is the Director General of the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management in Jamaica.  As such, she is responsible for the national disaster management programme in Jamaica. Her international and local voluntary service includes: Vice-Chairman, United Nations Scientific and Technical Committee for the International Decade for Natural Disaster Reduction; Vice Chairman, Association of Caribbean States Special Committee on Natural Disasters; Chairman, Association of Caribbean States Special Working Group on Agreement of Member States on Natural Disasters; President, Natural Disasters Network, Inter-American Development Bank Regional Policy Dialogue; and Member, Earthquake Sub-Committee for Review of the National Building Code, Jamaica. Dr. Carby has extensive consulting experience; she has worked for the International Red Cross, the Department for International Development of the UK Government, UNESCO, and the Inter-American Development Bank, as well as for local companies in Jamaica.
