Mac Darrow

Mac Darrow is the Coordinator of the Millennium Development Goals Unit of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (UN/OHCHR), working on policies, programming tools, advocacy and capacity building strategies to mainstream human rights within the UN system.  He has extensive experience on human rights and development issues in both operational and academic settings, and has published monographs, chapters in edited volumes and articles in refereed journals on international law, international organisations and development. He is currently on special leave from the United Nations, working in collaboration with the World Bank’s Legal Vice-Presidency to map and analyse principles of international human rights and environmental law relevant to climate change, and how human rights principles and strategies could support climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts.

Mac was previously a Research Fellow at the Academy of European Law, European University Institute, Florence, and prior to that was an anti-discrimination lawyer and legal policy advisor at the Human Rights Branch of the Attorney-General’s Department of the Commonwealth of Australia. He holds Bachelor of Laws (University of Western Australia), Master of International Law (Australian National University) and PhD (Utrecht) degrees, specialising in international human rights law and development.
